Pasadena Showcase House 2022
Library Lounge
2022 Library lounge. We wanted to create a space where you could curl up and read a book or relax and have an after dinner cocktail.
Inspired by 1920s speak easy, we wanted a dark moody space. We started by staining the existing shelving a dark chocolate brown. The original shelves were in bad shape and this was a way to ensure they would look refreshed when complete and at the same time, the dark woodwork would provide a wonderful frame for the exterior tree top views.
Since we modeled it after a speak easy, of course we had to have a bar. The bar was a custom furniture piece, designed by SH interiors, that housed a fridge and incorporated a custom brass shelving unit to display vintage glass wear and liquor bottles. We designed the shelving unit to mount to the front of the soffit which highlighted the gorgeous fittings. Thanks to Palmer Shelving for bringing our vison to life. The space would also provide a great background for bold, contemporary artwork, most notably the striking staircase painting by local artist Bruce Dean. Finishing the space we added a lush velvet sofa, gold iron pieces and a 1970's chandelier for some pizazz. We were able to create our custom upholstered pieces using fabrics by Kravet. And the iron furniture and lamps by Paul Ferrante.
